Obituary of William Thomas Rhyne

William Thomas Rhyne III passed away on June 20, 2015 at the age of 62 at his home in East Ridge. Tom was born in Chattanooga to William Thomas “W.T.” Rhyne Jr. and Sue Brock Rhyne. He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. “Hot Dog” was a gifted athlete throughout his life. Starting with football, he played well enough to win the prestigious citywide Thomm Mc An award at East Ridge in 1970-1971. After graduating, Tom played for his beloved UTC Mocs. Tom also loved softball and played for many years with the Concord Shell team. Even later in life, he helped coach little league teams in the East Ridge area. At UTC he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. “Dawg,” developed many friendships that he cherished and continued throughout his life. Tom is survived by his two brothers, Steve Rhyne and Mike Rhyne of Chattanooga and his niece Madison Rhyne of Louisville KY. In honor of Tom’s wishes, his service will be private, immediate family only, with a celebration of his life at a later date. Tom’s wishes were to have contributions in his name made to: AA Suburban Club, 2002 Main Street or the Red Cross. “Between the womb and the tomb, we live this short life between the eternities.
