I started my first job in 1961, at Scholze Tannery and it didn't take me long to meet Charles Oliphant. He was the backbone of this business and one man I admired immensely. Charles and Jane were a perfect match, loving family and he continued doing what he loved to do in life, He will be missed by all who knew him. Gene Carter

Mr. Oliphant originally came to Grafe Studio Floral Artist's shop the Easter after his wife's death with a rather strange request...some gardenia blooms wired for attaching to his gardenia bush...his wife's favorite. We looked forward to this sentimental gentleman's annual visit and were concerned when he hadn't been in touch by the Monday before Easter....but Tuesday morning.... there he was with his order for family members corsages,,,and the loose gardenias. Though he couldnt' even get out of the car, he was thinking about his family. You are all so fortunate to have had such a loving relative...and we were all inspired by his gentle, caring ways! Easter Bunny, you will be missed! Betsy Grafe

I looked forward to Mr. Oliphant's visits to the Local History Department. He was always on a quest for obscure local history information and loved helping the photo project staff identify unknown images. After I retired, I would check with the staff to see how he was doing. He was truly a remarkable person and I feel privileged to have known him. Clara W. Swann

I told Ann that I thought Uncle Charles would ,like the Energizer Bunny , just keep on going and going. I will miss him ,but he was a role model for all of us on how to live our lives in our 70's 80's and 90's...by learning ,doing what we love ,and just keep on being ourselves. I am sorry for your loss!Mary Helen and Gary
