Obituary of Ruby L. Gunn

Please share a memory of Ruby to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruby L. Gunn was born in Bridgeport, AL to Edward and Mollie Jones. She spent the majority of her life in Chattanooga, TN where she met and married Nick R. Gunn. In her early years, she worked at Chattanooga Bakery and then as a bookkeeper for over 40 years for Jernigan Furniture. She was a member of St. Elmo Church of Christ in Chattanooga where she taught Sunday school and lived her life as a Christian example by always doing thoughtful things for others. She loved and was loved by everyone who was blessed to know her. In 2012, she moved to Rock Hill, SC to be close to her youngest daughter, Mary Alice, and placed membership at Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ. During her short time in Rock Hill, she continued to be a wonderful Christian example and positive influence on those around her. Her family and friends will best remember her kindness towards others, her laughter, and quick wit. There was nothing she couldn’t do with her hands including all types of sewing and yarn work, crafts, beading, and painting, and enjoyed teaching these skills. She made many suitcases full of children’s clothes for medical and Christian mission trips to Haiti. Her hands were never idle. She loved to read the Bible as well as other books, especially poetry. Her favorite scripture was John, Chapter 14, favorite hymn was “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, and favorite poem was “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth. Although we are sad to lose her, we know she is with our heavenly Father. We will always love and miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick, and infant son, David. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Sue “Susie” Friel of Bryant, AL and Mary Alice Cline, of Fort Mill, SC, son-in-law, Ricky L. Cline, sister, Arnell Collins of Pompano Beach, FL, sister-in-law, Betty Jamison of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 3, 2015 in the funeral home chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service next to her beloved husband, Nick, at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Elmo Church of Christ, 4713 St. Elmo Avenue, Chattanooga, TN, 37409 or Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, SC, 29731.
