Obituary of Rebecca Jo Griffith

Rebecca "Betty Jo" Boyd Griffith, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, November 17, after a long illness. Betty Jo was born in Riceville, TN on March 20, 1932., the youngest of the six children of Luther and Mamie Vaughn Boyd. She was the life of the family with a mischievous sense of humor and a loving attitude toward all. She is still remembered as the talented and acrobatic drum majorette of the McMinn County High School Cherokee Marching Band. She worked in the PT Laboratory of DuPont de Nemours for more than 40 years -- where she went by the nickname "Jo"-- and treasured the lifelong friendships of many colleagues there. In later years, she traveled extensively with family to Florida, New Orleans, Myrtle Beach, Texas, the Bahamas and Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack and David Boyd, sisters, Grace Boyd and Sarah Gertrude Goodwin, and her granddaughter, Brooke Winslett, as well as former husband and friend, William R. "Bob" Griffith. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Griffith Moffett (Stephen) of Fort Worth, TX; Belinda Jo Griffith Winslett (Joe) and Tracy Griffith Longobardi of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Alexandra "Ali Jo" Winslett, Joey Winslett, Nicholas Longobardi, all of Chattanooga; and Christopher Moffett of Fort Worth. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Nunley (Basil) of Riceville, TN. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, many of whom considered her a generous and supportive second mom. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday in Riceville Cemetery in Riceville, TN. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
