Obituary of Albert Hamby

Rev. Albert Hamby, 87, of Soddy-Daisy passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at his residence. Rev. Hamby retired from Dupont after 38 years of service as a Senior Technical Assistant. He graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1941 and served our Country in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific. During his many years of gospel ministry, he pastored at several churches in our area including, Hendon Baptist Church, Lake Drive Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church located in Chattanooga. He served as Interim Pastor at New Salem Baptist Church where he was currently a member. Rev. Hamby was active in the Daisy Masonic Lodge #706 F&AM for many years, including serving as Chaplain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larkin and Omey Hamby; daughter, Shirley Williams and several brothers and sisters. Rev. Hamby is survived by his wife of more than 68½ years, Mildred Smith Hamby of Soddy-Daisy; daughter, Pat (Spencer) Jewell of Soddy-Daisy; sons, Robert (Betty) Hamby of Palm Coast, FL; Bill Hamby and Steve Hamby both of Soddy-Daisy; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 24, 2010 in the Legacy Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Alan Rogers and the Rev. and Hon. Clarence Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
