Wendell A. Smith, Jr., 88, of Soddy-Daisy passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at Alexian Village Healthcare. He was born October 11, 1921 in Alabama to the late Wendell Smith Sr. and Hannah E. Smith. Mr. Smith was an Army Veteran of WWII and was a well known brick layer in our area. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy and Mary and one step-grandson, Jason. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Hendrix Smith; sister, Margaret Thomas of Chattanooga; sons, Wendell Smith III of Arkansas; daughter, Ellen Linder of Maryland; step-children, Shirley Cooper, Charles Walraven, Robin Walraven and Susie Wiggin; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a niece and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the Legacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Odell Broadway officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
