Obituary of Alma Ruth Downey

Alma Downey, 71, of Hixson-Chattanooga finally found the peace & happiness she so desperately searched for throughout her life on Dec. 15th. She was surrounded by many special friends & family as she was so tenderly and calmly guided to heaven's glorious gates by God's loving hand. Mother presented in her life a strength very few possess and displayed it throughout her life by the burdens she carried and the struggles she survived. The ones who knew her well admired the strength she carried and instilled it in all her children and grandchildren. Her greatest loves were ALL her children that she never wanted to leave or not have nearby and was 'Granny' to many other special people in her life. She loved beyond words the music of Jerry Lee Lewis and even named her baby daughter (Leapy) after him. Music was her solace and greatest passion. Mother held on for those she loved as long as she could, especially the ones with needs greater than her own, especially her baby 'Pete' and only wanted love and happiness for those she left behind and her little dog 'Pinto'. She was preceded in death by her mother; daughter, Teresa; sons, Petey and Fleuger; several brothers and sisters and grandson, Sam. Survivors include her, daughters, Betty Rose, Gail Ward-Holden and Jerri Lea 'Leapy' Downey; son, Ronnie 'Pete' Downey; her loving sister, Betty; grandchildren, Amanda, Gianetta, Scotti, Jamie, Jon, and Mary; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Savannah, Gabby, Tay, Cayden, Brooklyn, Jessica, Brandon and Caleb and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM today in the Legacy Funeral Home Chapel with her friend and pastor, Bro. Mike Combs officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM '" 2:30 PM today at the funeral home.
