Obituary of Robert W. Hamill

Robert W. (RW) (Ike) Hamill, of Hixson, a WWII Veteran passed from this life into the next on Veterans Day, November 11th at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy on March 26, 2005. RW was a descendent of the original Hamill family in the Hixson community. Born and raised in Hixson, he entered this world on May 13, 1928, to Ephriam James Hamill and Rosa Hill Hamill. RW's brothers and sisters are Ephriam James (EJ) Hamill, Jr., Cleo Hamill Poe, James Samuel Hamill, and Nellie Jean Hamill. RW attended and graduated from Hixson High School and entered the Navy as a young man, serving in both the South Pacific theater and Okinawa, Japan, during World War II. After his tour of duty in the Navy, he returned to his hometown of Hixson and married Dorothy Marie Raulston James. They raised four children--Robert Wayne Hamill, Sr., Danny Ray Hamill, Rosie Marie Hamill Brown and Debbie Renee Hamill Hindman. He was employed by Lewis Benton at the Hixson Packing Company on Mill Road for 40 years. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren--Annette, Bobby, Christina, Jessica, David, Sandy, Amber, Tommy and Kim. He had nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 13, 2009 in the Legacy Funeral Home chapel with Brother Willard Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
