I will always remember Dr. Caldwell as the kindest doctor I have ever known. He came a long way up Lee Pike to squat beside a couch in a dark room to tell a little girl she would be OK. "Just rest and be quite a few days, Karen. These measles will go away." His voice was calm and reassuring, and I believed him. After 50+ years I still remember his compassionate voice and love him for all he gave our Soddy-Daisy community. Thank you, Dr. Caldwell.

I am so sorry you must now deal with the death of a husband, daddy, and friend. As I remember Martin, I realize how often we take for granted the people who have touched our lives. I don't know how many times I would complain of a sore throat and it wouldn't be long before I was in the office for the shot of penicillin. He is the only person that has ever given a shot I couldn't feel! Or the time he pierced my ears, and later had to come by on his way home to put the earring I had taken out, back in. I've been to your house in the evening for a tetanus shot, after cutting my hand. He always had a smile, kind word, or inquiry about what was going on in my life. He lived his Christianity daily by the way he cared for others. He will be missed. May the Lord bless and keep you.

It is so sad to hear about Dr. Caldwells passing. He was my doctor for years as a child and saved my life once. What a good man he was and he would always make me smile as a child. My heart goes out to your family and you are all in my prayers.

Every now and then from New Orleans I "Google" the names of people I went to school with - today I just happened to Google my friend and "competitor" of forty years ago, John Caldwell, and found his father's funeral service was today. The internet works in mysterious ways ... John, I have very fond remembrances of you, Lynn, Steve and your dad. You have my heartfelt sympathy. Your dad lived a long and good life.

My most sincere condolences to Dr. Caldwell's family. His passing reminds me of the following. In my younger years I suffered from massive sinus headaches. They were so severe I once had to be taken home from SD high school. This was during my 1953 sophomore year. I walked into Dr. Jenkins office, our family doctor, and he was out. Dr. Caldwell, who was in the process of taking over the practice, asked me to let him take a look. After massaging my neck he told me that everything should now be fine, and to go home and take a nap. I did so and have not had a sinus headache since! A wonderful doctor and one of the kindest persons I've ever met.

I'm so sad to hear Dr. Caldwell is gone. He took great care of my entire family. For me he was my first experience with a Dr. and he spoiled me on all the rest. I have never had another Dr. treat me as well as he did, he felt more like family than a physician. He is so terribly missed by us all.
