Obituary of Jimmie Lou Shannon Duchene
Please share a memory of Jimmie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jimmie Lou Shannon Duchene, known to her friends as J.L., passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2014. Her husband of 65 years, Bill, was at her side to see her take her last breath. Born at home in Harriman, Tennessee, on September 6, 1930, she was of the Presbyterian faith and a charter member of a local church. She was a graduate of Danville High School in Danville, Kentucky, where she was a majorette.
In 1956, she retired from secretarial work and became a stay-at-home mother for her first child. In her younger years, she was active in her children's schools and her church. She loved the outdoors and was president of her neighborhood garden club. After her children left the nest, she traveled with her husband, Bill, and met many new friends. She loved them all and held especially fond memories of Jo and Bob Riggsby, Fay and Bill Eubank, Nancy and Steve Fletcher, Shirley and Carlos Keyes, and Beverly and Bobby Keyes.
Her father, Houk Shannon; her mother, Beatrice Phillips Shannon; her sisters, Joyce and Patsy, and her son, William Duchene III, preceded Jimmie in death.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William Duchene II; daughter Cecelia Duchene; her friend who was like a son, Lucius Hilley; son-in-law, Donald Truitt; and grandson, William Duchene IV.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga and the nurses who gave such loving care to J.L. in her final days.
There will be no visitation or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you contribute to your favorite church, charity or Hospice of Chattanooga.
