Bobby Gene McDaniel surrounded by his loving Family went home to be with his heavenly Father Sunday, December 15, 2013. As his Family prayed and thanked God for this wonderful man--Heavens gates opened. Bob loved his family. He was a devoted Husband, A Loving Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was a faithful member of New Salem Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years and on Sunday mornings you would find him at the front door as a People Greeter. Bob loved people and was a Christian who loved the Lord and shared his testimony with others. He retired from Combustion Engineering where he worked for 43 years, and was also a member of the 656 Boilermakers. After Bob's retirement, you would find him greeting visitors at Legacy Funeral Home. Bob had a career in Fast Pitch Softball receiving many awards. Bob was named outstanding athlete in 1967, inducted into the Chattanooga Hall of Fame in 1989, and Tennessee Hall of Fame in 2009. Bob was known as one of the best fast pitch softball pitchers in the South. During his 25 years career he had 561 wins, 92 No hitters, played in 15 state tournaments, 16 regional tournaments, 2 national tournaments, and was named all world pitcher two times. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Jake E McDaniel and Dollie Reece McDaniel; brothers, JD McDaniel, Billy Joe McDaniel and sister In- Law Patricia (Pat) McDaniel. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judy, she was his devoted caregiver. Since his illness 14 years ago Bob especially cherished this time loving his Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandson. daughters, Michele (Alan) Brown, Allison (Tyler) Akins; grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Jonathan (Kathryn) Brown, Jared Brown, Brady McVay, Oakley Akins, Crosby Akins; Great Grandson, Bryce Brown; sister, Jane Wooten and many nieces and nephews; special family friends, New Salem Baptist Church Family and the Walker Family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Rogers officitiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3pm and 4-8pm on Friday at the funeral home and from 1:00pm until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
