May you all be comforted by your wonderful memories of Brooke. You will remain in my payers. I understand just a small bit of your heartach. Brook was in my class at Chattanooga State and she talked with me about the courses she needed to transfer to UTC. She would also just come to my office to "talk history." I remember how excited she was to become a docent for the Anne Frank exhibit when it was on our campus. She talked to me several times about traveling with the Chatt State history teachers on our trips to Europe. So Brooke was special to me too.

Our memories of her will be forever part of one of the best holiday adventures through South Dakota and Wyoming. Her passion for history and friendship, laughter and song were some of the gifts she gave of herself. Marlene, Bill and Shaundra

Dearest Belinda, I was watching TV and heard on the news about Brooke. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I know how proud you were of her back at McConnell Elementary School. Brooke was always happy and a big smile on her face when she attended the After School Program. I remember her and Tiffany Wheeler being best friends, always together. School was important to her back then, so I can imagine how important it became as she turn into a young women. IT looks like she fulfilled allot of her dreams early in life, traveling and enjoying her family life as a well rounded individual could be. She was a very loving person to everyone and I know she will have many rewards in heaven. God called her early I know, but that was his plan in the beginning She was an Angel here on earth and now in heaven watching over you. The memories you have of her are gifts to share with everyone. She made a difference on this earth and will be remembered by allot of people as a caring, loving and unique lady. She will be missed! I am proud that she was a part of my life that I will always cherish! My heart is hurting for you're whole family and I will continue to pray for all of you now and many weeks to come. Belinda, you are a very special person and I know God will help you through this time. Take a deep breath and remember the good times and a smile will come on your face, that will be a Brooke moment You'll have many of these the rest of you're life. I love you and will never forget you're kindness to me. I guess when you think of it Brooke had a great role model, YOU. Remembering you always, Toby

My heart goes out to all of Brooke's family--Joe,Belinda,Joey,and Allie, as well as her grandmothers, Dot and Betty. We--her cousins and relatives-- are all grieving for her. Her life was a beacon of perseverance in the face of challenges most of us cannot even begin to imagine--yet she courageously prevailed--and with laughter and smiles. It is a shock to us all, but I know she is in the arms of those who went before--all the ancestors she dearly loved and whose lives she closely studied. We will all miss her smiling face here. "God gives us love--someone to love, He lends us."

I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Brooke's death. It seems impossible, as full of life as she was. I first met Brooke in an upper-division course on American Literature at UTC. Despite her hearing impairment and other health issues, she was a fearless contributor to class discussion, always interested and interesting. When an elderly man auditing the class that semester died before the class was over, she was the one who lead the charge to take up a donation and who saw to it that the class sent flowers to his funeral. She would drop by my office just to chat or borrow a stapler long after the class was over, treating me, as she should, as an old friend. She was absolutely a pleasure to know, and I am very pleased that she died doing something she loved -- traveling and seeing new places and things. In Willa Cather's classic novel "Death Comes for the Archbishop," there is an old and heroic priest whose health is failing. When someone worries that he might catch cold, he says, "I shall not die of a cold, I shall die of having lived." Surely that could be said of Brooke, that she died of having lived. Likewise, in his book, Walden, Henry David Thoreau, explains that he went to live at Walden Pond because he wanted "to live deliberately" in order that he might not discover at the end of his life that he had failed to truly live. Brooke died much too young, but she surely lived, and that life cannot be erased or undone. My very best wishes to you, her family, as I believe you are much more in need of consolation than Brooke, in whatever country she is exploring now. Sincerely, Dr. Christopher Stuart English Department, UTC

Joe, Belinda, Ali & Joey: I recall many good memories being your neighbor for several years on Freedom Bay Dr. One memory is that of Brooke getting off the school bus and going directly inside to study. I was very impressed, but not surprised, with her list of accomplishments. I am sorry for your loss. Love, Byerly Morgan

Brooke was such an adorable child. You were so lucky to have her as much as how lucky she was to have you. It is amazing how much we think we teach our children and then you realize how much they actually taught us. The entire family will be in my prayers. But God needed a special person and He picked Brooke.

She would light up any room she walked in and if i was having a bad day at school she always seemed to make it better just by passing her in the hall or being in class with her.
