Obituary of Thomas Landress Chamberlain

Thomas Landress Chamberlain, 75, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018. He was born June 20, 1942. Tom was a graduate of The Bright School, The Baylor School, and The University of the South. He worked as an investment broker in Chattanooga for many years, most recently at Morgan Stanley partnered with Laura Knight. In the Mid-1980’s Tom was on the Board of Directors of Erlanger hospital and served a term as its Chairman where he oversaw the addition of the area’s first air ambulance, Life Force. He remained involved with T.C. Thompson’s Children’s Hospital Foundation for many years afterward. He loved golf and hunting. In earlier years he wrote an outdoor sports column for the Chattanooga Times, once winning Tennessee Outdoor Sportswriter of the Year. His stories of the Old Winged Critter Shooter taking the Little Winged Critter Shooter, his son, hunting not only showcased our area’s excellent hunting but also brought to life the wonderful hunting culture many people from our area enjoyed growing up. He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Hiram Sanborn Chamberlain III and his brother, Hiram Sanborn (Sandy) Chamberlain IV. He is survived by his wife, Helen Chamberlain, his mother Evelyn Landress Chamberlain (Lookout Mountain, TN), his son Hiram Sanborn Chamberlain V (Bo) and his wife Tamela (Signal Mountain, TN) and his grandchildren Zoe Evelyn, Emma Caroline and Hiram Sanborn Chamberlain VI (Shiloh); his step-son Adam Hawkins and his wife Jennifer (Sand Mountain, GA) and his step-granddaughters, Glenna and Morrigan; his sisters Emily Chamberlain and her husband Spencer Lemons (Bainbridge Is., WA), Dr. Mary Ava Chamberlain (Dayton, OH) and his brother George Ivens Chamberlain and his wife Beth (Sewanee, TN). As Tom was a lifelong Episcopalian, the funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Church, 305 W. 7th Street, Chattanooga, TN at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018. The Internment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at St. Paul’s from 11AM until the time of the service at the church.
