William R. (Bill) McCamy of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, peacefully passed away on January 6, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Velma Bailey McCamy, to whom he was married for 68 years. Other surviving family members include two sons, Michael McCamy (Pam), of Orange County, Virginia, Gary McCamy, of Rochester, New York, and one daughter, Debra Shultz (Rick), of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Survivors also include four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. McCamy was born on July 10, 1930 to William and Margaret Harris McCamy. He was a graduate of Cass High School and Georgia State University. He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served during the Korean War. The family moved to Lookout Mountain in 1969, when Mr. McCamy joined the Singer Company as Controller of the Cobble Tufting Machine Division. He retired as CFO of Spencer Wright Industries and First Chattanooga Financial. He was active in Church and community affairs. He was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee, Church Council member, and Stephen minister. Mr. McCamy served as a Trustee of Lookout Mountain Christian School (now Chattanooga Christian) and Trustee of Holston Conference College of the United Methodist Church. Other areas of service include the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Senior Neighbors, Chattanooga Epilepsy Foundation, and WTCI Public Television. In the past, Mr. McCamy served on the Board of First American Bank of Chattanooga and AmSouth Bank of Georgia. He was a member of Chattanooga Rotary, the Mountain City Club, and Financial Executives for 30 years. Visitation will be held at First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Immediately following will be a memorial service officiated by Dr. Doug Fairbanks, Dr. Linda McDaniel, and Dr. David Harr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Epilepsy Foundation or your favorite charity.
