Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Braddock Carter, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Born to Florence and Marvin Carroll on January 6, 1928 in Chattanooga, Mrs. Carter was days short of her 90th birthday. A graduate of Central High School and student at the University of Chattanooga, Mary Braddock Carter lived a full and beautiful life. She was devoted to her family, her friends, and her Lord -- with grace and selflessness being central themes. Ever the loving and forgiving mother, Mrs. Carter excelled in many homemaker roles: chef, gardener, seamstress, and sports fan. A remarkable 3-time cancer survivor, she found strength and purpose in the promises of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband of 38 years, Houston T. Braddock, her son, Tom Braddock, and her second husband of 26 years, Dale Carter. She is survived by her brother, Marvin Carroll, Jr., Hazel Green, Alabama; daughter, Becky Braddock, Chattanooga; daughter, Beth Braddock Warren (Michael) Lookout Mountain; son, Jimmy Braddock of Columbia, SC; three nieces; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. This only covers those who were blood relatives as Mrs. Carter had many deep relationships with friends, young families and children at Ridgeview Baptist, Grace Baptist, and Community Baptist Church. Mrs. Carter's presence amongst us left those who knew her well, better people. She will be missed by so many. "Her children rise up and call her blessed." Psalm 31:28 The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Wann Funeral Home in Chattanooga. Following visitation, there will be a public graveside service at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts made be made to Community Baptist Church, 6750 Ringgold Road, Chattanooga, Tn 37412. Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 4000 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37409. (423) 821-7551 Share your memories, stories and photos at www.wannfuneralhome.com.
