Obituary of Glenn Wall Smith

Glenn Wall Smith of Cleveland and formerly of Chattanooga passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 28, 2017. He was born in Anderson, SC on January 9, 1920 and was the son of the late Rev. Odis Smith and the late Wallace Lecroy Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty six years, Bobbie June Haney Smith; three sisters, Opal Smith, Viva Smith Tripp and Lucille Smith Barker; two brothers, Leroy Smith and Joel Smith. Glen was a WWII veteran in the 81st Infantry Division "The Wildcats" 323rd Regiment Company C Squad Leader. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with a second award combat infantry badge and expert marksman badge. He fought valiantly in the Battle of Peleliu. Glenn retired from Burlington Industries after thirty years of service. After retirement he worked with Lane Funeral Home , Roberts Express and Pruitt's Foodtown. H e was a member of North Chattanooga Church of God and past president of Red Bank Lions Club. Survivors include his sons, Rev. Delwyn (Annette) Smith of Cleveland and Dr. Kevin (Ellen) Smith of Leesburg, GA; five grandchildren, Jarrod, Logan and Zane Smith of Cleveland and Evi and Phoebe Smith of Leesburg, GA; two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Brayden of Cleveland; one brother, Leland Smith of Aynor, SC; one sister, Juanita Smith Wilson of Port St. Lucie, FL and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at North Cleveland Church of God with Pastor Mark Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the United States Army. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Red Bank Lions Club or North Chattanooga Church of God. Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
